Hadith 4836

Once, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) bought a slave girl on the way to Makkah Mukarramah and took her with him for Hajj. There, he searched for shoes but could not find any, so he cut the socks from below and made her wear them. Ibn Ishaq says that I mentioned this to Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him), so he said that previously Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to do this, then Safiyyah bint Abi Ubaid narrated to him the hadith of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to grant women permission to wear socks.
