Once a man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), "In your opinion, is Witr a Sunnah?" He replied, "What do you mean by Sunnah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and all the Muslims have performed Witr." The man said, "I am not asking you that, I am asking whether Witr is Sunnah?" Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied, "Wait! Does your mind work? I am telling you that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed it, and so did the Muslims."
