Hadith 4825

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِذَا يَعْنِي ضَنَّ النَّاسُ بِالدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ ، وَتَبَايَعُوا بِالْعَيْنِ ، وَاتَّبَعُوا أَذْنَابَ الْبَقَرِ ، وَتَرَكُوا الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهِمْ بَلَاءً ، فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى يُرَاجِعُوا دِينَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When people become stingy with dinars and dirhams, begin to buy fine and luxurious things, follow the tails of cattle, and abandon jihad in the way of Allah, then Allah will send calamities upon them, and He will not remove them until the people return to their religion.
