Hadith 48

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ مِنْ آلِ أَبِي عُقَيْلٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ . . . إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : وَقَرَأَ إِحْدَى هَاتَيْنِ الْآيَتَيْنِ : مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ سورة النساء آية 123 ، وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً سورة آل عمران آية 135 .
This narration is also reported through another chain in the same manner, except that in it, this statement of Imam Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) is transmitted: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited one of these two verses.
