(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنِي نُبَيْهُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ : أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ رَمِدَتْ عَيْنُهُ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ ، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُكَحِّلَهَا ، فَنَهَاهُ أَبَانُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُضَمِّدَهَا بِالصَّبِرِ ، وَزَعَمَ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ حدث عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ .
Umar bin Ubaidullah developed an eye ailment while in the state of Ihram. He wanted to apply kohl to his eyes, but Sayyiduna Aban bin Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade him and said that he could apply patience as kohl (i.e., he should be patient and not apply kohl until he comes out of Ihram), because I heard Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate such a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
