Hadith 4643

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَأْكُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ أُضْحِيَّتِهِ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ " وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ إِذَا غَابَتْ الشَّمْسُ مِنَ الْيَوْمِ الثَّالِثِ لَا يَأْكُلُ مِنْ لَحْمِ هَدْيِهِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No person should eat from the meat of his sacrificial animal for more than three days." For this reason, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would not eat the meat of the sacrificial animal after sunset on the third day (later this ruling was abrogated).
