(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قِيلَ لِسُفْيَانَ : ابْنُ عَمْرٍو ؟ قَالَ : لَا ، ابْنُ عُمَرَ أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا حَاصَرَ أَهْلَ الطَّائِفِ ، وَلَمْ يَقْدِرْ مِنْهُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ " ، فَكَأَنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَرِهُوا ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : " اغْدُوا " ، فَغَدَوْا عَلَى الْقِتَالِ ، فَأَصَابَهُمْ جِرَاحٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ، فَسُرَّ الْمُسْلِمُونَ ، فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laid siege to the people of Ta’if, but did not achieve any benefit from it. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) announced one day that, “Tomorrow, insha’Allah, we will return.” The Muslims felt uneasy at this command. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became aware of this and told them to stay. The next day, there was fighting, and many Muslims were wounded. On that day, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again made the same announcement: “Tomorrow, insha’Allah, we will return.” This time, the Muslims were pleased, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled upon seeing this.
