Hadith 4541

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " عَنْ بَيْعِ الثَّمَرِ بِالتَّمْرِ " ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : كَذَا حَفِظْنَا الثَّمَرِ بِالتَّمْرِ ، وَأَخْبَرَهُمْ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَخَّصَ فِي الْعَرَايَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling dates that are still on the trees in exchange for already cut dates according to a specified estimate. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to me, that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted the sale of ‘ariyah (dates on the tree) according to an estimate.
