(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الَّذِي يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ مِنَ الْخُيَلَاءِ لَا يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، قَالَ نَافِعٌ : فَأُنْبِئْتُ أَنَّ أمَّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : فَكَيْفَ بِنَا ؟ قَالَ : " شِبْرًا " ، قَالَتْ : إِذَنْ تَبْدُوَ أَقْدَامُنَا ؟ قَالَ : " ذِرَاعًا ، لَا تَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection." Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) (according to Nafi‘, may Allah have mercy on him) asked: "What about us? (Because women’s clothes are long and usually the lower part of the trousers touches the ankles.)" He said: "Raise your garment by a handspan." She again asked: "Then our feet will become visible?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not add more than a handspan (that much is excused)."
