Hadith 4487

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَال : " سَبَّقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ ، فَأَرْسَلَ مَا ضُمِّرَ مِنْهَا مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ أَوْ الحَيْفَاءِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ ، وَأَرْسَلَ مَا لَمْ يُضَمَّرْ مِنْهَا مِنْ ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ " ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : فَكُنْتُ فَارِسًا يَوْمَئِذٍ ، فَسَبَقْتُ النَّاسَ ، طَفَّفَ بِيَ الْفَرَسُ مَسْجِدَ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) organized a horse race. Among them, the lean horses were designated to race from "Hafyaa" to Thaniyyat al-Wada', and those that were not lean-bodied had their race from Thaniyyat al-Wada' to the Mosque of Banu Zuraiq. At that time, I had started horse riding, and I won that race; my horse brought me close to the Mosque of Banu Zuraiq.
