Hadith 4479

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " مَنْ اتَّخَذَ أَوْ قَالَ : اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا لَيْسَ بِضَارٍ ، وَلَا كَلْبَ مَاشِيَةٍ ، نَقَصَ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطَانِ " ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : وَكَلْبَ حَرْثٍ ؟ فَقَالَ : إِنَّ لِأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَرْثاً .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever keeps a dog that is neither for protection nor a hunting dog, then his reward will decrease by one qirat every day." Someone said to him that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) also mentions the dog kept for guarding crops? So Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) has his own field, (that is why he remembers this exception very well).
