(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : غَدَوْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ ، فَسَلَّمْنَا بِالْبَابِ ، فَأُذِنَ لَنَا ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ الْبَارِحَةَ كُلَّهُ ، فَقَالَ : هَذًّا كَهَذِّ الشِّعْرِ ! إِنَّا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا الْقِرَاءَةَ ، " وَإِنِّي لَأَحْفَظُ الْقَرَائِنَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِهِنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثَمَانِيَ عَشْرَةَ سُورَةً مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ، وَسُورَتَيْنِ مِنْ آلِ حم " .
Abu Wa'il says that once we went to the service of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) after the Fajr prayer and stood at the door and greeted him with salam. We were granted permission. A man said, "I recite the Mufassalat (short surahs) in one night." Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Like poetry?" I also know such examples that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited two surahs in one rak'ah, of which eighteen surahs are from the Mufassalat and two surahs are from Al-Ham.
