Hadith 4405

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَنَا ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " قَرَأَ سُورَةَ النَّجْمِ فَسَجَدَ " ، وَمَا بَقِيَ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ إِلَّا سَجَدَ ، إِلَّا رَجُلًا رَفَعَ كَفًّا مِنْ حَصًى ، فَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ ، وَقَالَ : يَكْفِينِي هَذَا . قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ قُتِلَ كَافِرًا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a prostration of recitation at the end of Surah An-Najm, and all the Muslims also prostrated, except for one man from the Quraysh who took a handful of soil and brought it to his forehead and prostrated on it. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that later I saw him killed in a state of disbelief.
