Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting near the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with about eighty Qurayshi men—there was no one from any tribe other than Quraysh among them. By Allah! I have never seen the bright side of men's faces more beautiful than I saw on that day among those people. During the conversation, the topic of women came up and people began to talk about women. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also participated in the conversation with them. Then I wished that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would become silent, so I came before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed and after reciting the testimony (the words of shahada), he said: "As for what follows! O group of Quraysh! You are the people worthy of this leadership as long as you do not disobey Allah. When you become involved in disobedience to Allah, then Allah will impose upon you a person who will strip you just as this branch is stripped."—At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a branch in his blessed hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stripped it, and it turned out to be white, solid, and smooth from inside.
