(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَنَائِمَ حُنَيْنٍ بِالْجِعِرَّانَةِ ، ازْدَحَمُوا عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِ فَضَرَبُوهُ وَشَجُّوهُ ، قَالَ : فَجَعَلَ يَمْسَحُ الدَّمَ عَنْ جَبْهَتِهِ ، وَيَقُولُ : رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِقَوْمِي إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ " . قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ الدَّمَ عَنْ جَبْهَتِهِ ، يَحْكِي الرَّجُلَ ، وَيَقُولُ : " رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِقَوْمِي إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was distributing the spoils of the Battle of Hunayn at Ji'ranah. People gathered around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was relating about a prophet whom his people had beaten, and he was wiping the blood from his face and kept saying: "O Lord! Forgive my people, for they do not know." Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: That scene is still before my eyes, that while narrating this incident, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wiping his own forehead.
