Once, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon from the pulpit and said: I am narrating to you a hadith which I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It is not out of miserliness that I would refrain from conveying it to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Standing guard for one night in the path of Allah is superior to a thousand nights of standing in prayer and fasting during the day.
