Hadith 432

Abdullah bin Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) used to prevent people from performing Hajj Tamattu', and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the fatwa for its permissibility. On one occasion, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) must have said something to him, so Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Do you even know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did it this way, yet you still prevent it?" Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "What you say is correct, but we fear (that people will approach their wives at night and in the morning be wet from the water of major ritual impurity and then enter into the state of Ihram for Hajj)."
