Hadith 4278

حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ خِلَاسٍ ، وأَبي حسَّان ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، أَنَّهُ اخْتُلِفَ إِلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فِي امْرَأَةٍ تَزَوَّجَهَا رَجُلٌ فَمَاتَ . . . فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ . قَالَ : فَقَامَ الْجَرَّاحُ ، وَأَبُو سِنَانٍ ، فَشَهِدَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَضَى بِهِ فِيهِمْ ، فِي الْأَشْجَعِ بْنِ رَيْثٍ ، فِي بَرْوَعَ بِنْتِ وَاشِقٍ الْأَشْجَعِيَّةِ وَكَانَ اسْمُ زَوْجِهَا هِلَالَ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ . قَالَ عَفَّانُ : قَضَى بِهِ فِيهِمْ ، فِي الْأَشْجَعِ بْنِ رَيْثٍ ، فِي بَرْوَعَ بِنْتِ وَاشِقٍ الْأَشْجَعِيَّةِ ، وَكَانَ زَوْجُهَا هِلَالَ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ .
Abdullah bin Utbah says that once some people came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked this question: If a person marries a woman, no dowry has been fixed, and before consummation he dies, what is the ruling? . . . . . Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith and stated that the name of her husband was Hilal.
