Alqamah narrates that once in the plain of Arafat, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) met Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him). He stood with him and they began to talk. Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Abu Abdur Rahman! Should we not arrange your marriage with a young girl?" Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) called Alqamah and narrated this hadith: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us, "O group of young men! Whoever among you has the ability to marry should get married, for marriage lowers the gaze and protects the private parts. And whoever is not able to marry should fast, for fasting diminishes sexual desire."
