Once, a man from Banu Tai narrated among the people, on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the abundance of family and wealth. Then Abu Hamzah—who was present and sitting there at the time—affirmed this and also narrated it with his own chain of transmission, and at the end, he quoted this statement of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "What will happen to the person whose family lives in «بريدان», some of his family lives in Madinah and some elsewhere?"
