Hadith 4147

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let not Bilal's call to prayer prevent you from eating the pre-dawn meal (suhoor), for he gives the call to prayer early so that those who are performing the night prayer may return and those who are sleeping may wake up (and eat suhoor). True dawn does not appear like this"—the narrator joined his hands and raised them—"but it appears like this." The narrator separated his two index fingers to demonstrate.
