Hadith 4118

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اقْرَأْ عَلَيَّ الْقُرْآنَ " ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَيْفَ أَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ ، وَإِنَّمَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنِّي أَشْتَهِي أَنْ أَسْمَعَهُ مِنْ غَيْرِي " ، قَالَ : فَافْتَتَحْتُ سُورَةَ النِّسَاءِ ، فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغْتُ فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِنْ كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَؤُلاءِ شَهِيدًا سورة النساء آية 41 ، قَالَ : نَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ ، وَعَيْنَاهُ تَذْرِفَانِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day I was present in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "Recite the Qur'an to me." I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Should I recite it to you while it has been revealed to you? He said: "Yes, but I like to hear it from someone other than myself." So I began to recite, and when I reached this verse: «﴿فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِنْ كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَؤُلَاءِ شَهِيدًا﴾» [النساء : 41] "How will it be when We bring from every nation a witness, and We bring you as a witness over them all?" I saw that the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were flowing with tears.
