Hadith 4110

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَاجِدٍ الْحَنَفِيِّ ، عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ السَّيْرِ بِالْجِنَازَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " مَا دُونَ الْخَبَبِ ، الْجِنَازَةُ مَتْبُوعَةٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِتَابِعٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about walking with a funeral procession. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It should be at a pace less than running, and the funeral should be followed, not leading (the funeral should be ahead and those walking should be behind it)."
