Hadith 3986

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَيْسَ لَنَا نِسَاءٌ ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا نَسْتَخْصِي ؟ " فَنَهَانَا عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ رُخِّصَ لَنَا بَعْدُ فِي أَنْ نَتَزَوَّجَ الْمَرْأَةَ بِالثَّوْبِ إِلَى أَجَلٍ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تُحَرِّمُوا طَيِّبَاتِ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَلا تَعْتَدُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ سورة المائدة آية 87 " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that we used to participate in battles with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and there were no women with us. Once we said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Should we not get ourselves castrated? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from doing so. Later, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) permitted us, for a specific period, to marry women in exchange for garments. Then he recited this verse: «﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُحَرِّمُوا طَيِّبَاتِ مَا أَحَلَّ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْ وَلَا تَعْتَدُوا إِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ﴾» [المائدة : 87] “O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.”
