Hadith 3973

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، وَحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ ، وأَبي عُبَيْدَة ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ فَقَالَ : " الصَّلَاةُ لِوَقْتِهَا ، وَبِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ ، وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " ، وَلَوْ اسْتَزَدْتُ لَزَادَنِي ، قَالَ حُسَيْنٌ : اسْتَزَدْتُهُ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Which deed is most beloved to Allah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "Prayer at its proper time, kindness to parents, and striving in the way of Allah." If I had asked further questions, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would have answered them as well.
