Hadith 3937

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ لَيْلَةً مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ قَائِمًا " ، حَتَّى هَمَمْتُ بِأَمْرِ سُوءٍ ، قُلْنَا وَمَا هَمَمْتَ بِهِ ؟ ! قَالَ : هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَقْعُدَ ، وَأَدَعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ . . . مِثْلَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I prayed at night with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood for such a long time that I began to intend something bad in my heart. His students asked: What did you intend? He replied: That I would sit down and leave the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) standing.
