Hadith 3906

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ، فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ " أَخَذْتُ مِنْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِضْعًا وَسَبْعِينَ سُورَةً " ، وَزَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ غُلَامٌ لَهُ ذُؤَابَتَانِ ، يَلْعَبُ مَعَ الْغِلْمَانِ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I have recited seventy surahs after hearing them from the blessed mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the scribes of revelation, who had sheep and used to play with the children.
