(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْعَيْزَارِ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيَّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا صَاحِبُ هَذِهِ الدَّارِ وَأَشَارَ إِلَى دَارِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَلَمْ يُسَمِّهِ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّ الْعَمَلِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " الصَّلاَةُ عَلَى وَقْتِهَا " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : ثُمَّ أَيٌّ ؟ قَالَ : " ثُمَّ بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : ثُمَّ أَيٌّ ؟ قَالَ : " ثُمَّ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " ، قَالَ : فَحَدَّثَنِي بِهِنَّ ، وَلَوْ اسْتَزَدْتُهُ لَزَادَنِي .
Abu Amr Shaibani says that the resident of this house narrated this hadith to us, and while saying this, he pointed towards the house of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and, out of respect, did not mention his name: Once I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Which deed is most beloved to Allah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Prayer at its proper time." I asked, "Then what?" He said, "Good treatment of parents." I asked, "Then what?" He said, "Jihad in the way of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told me these things, and if I had asked more, he would have answered those as well.
