(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْهَاشِمِيُّ ، أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ مُعَيْزٍ السَّعْدِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ أَسْقِي فَرَسًا لِي فِي السَّحَرِ ، فَمَرَرْتُ بِمَسْجِدِ بَنِي حَنِيفَةَ ، وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ : إِنَّ مُسَيْلِمَةَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ، فَبَعَثَ الشُّرْطَةَ ، فَجَاءُوا بِهِمْ ، فَاسْتَتَابَهُمْ ، فَتَابُوا ، فَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُمْ ، وَضَرَبَ عُنُقَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ النَّوَّاحَةِ ، فَقَالُوا : آخَذْتَ قَوْمًا فِي أَمْرٍ وَاحِدٍ ، فَقَتَلْتَ بَعْضَهُمْ ، وَتَرَكْتَ بَعْضَهُمْ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ هَذَا وَابْنُ أُثَالِ بْنِ حَجَرٍ ، فَقَالَ : " أَتَشْهَدَانِ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ؟ " فَقَالَا : نَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُسَيْلِمَةَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ ، ولَوْ كُنْتُ قَاتِلًا وَفْدًا ، لَقَتَلْتُكُمَا " ، قال : فَلِذَلِكَ قَتَلْتُهُ .
Ibn Mu'iz Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I went out in the morning to give water to my horse, and as I passed by the mosque of Banu Hanifa, I heard those people saying that Musaylimah is the messenger of Allah. I went to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, and mentioned this to him. He sent soldiers to bring them, made them repent, and they repented. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, let them go, but he beheaded Abdullah bin Nuwahah. People asked him, "You apprehended a group of people for the same matter, but killed some and let others go. What is the reason for this?" He replied, "This man and Ibn Athal had come to the Prophet (ﷺ) as envoys from Musaylimah the Liar. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked both of them: 'Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' They said, 'We testify that Musaylimah is the messenger of Allah.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'If I were to kill envoys, I would have beheaded both of you.' For this reason, I have killed him."
