It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the first seven people to openly declare their Islam were: the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) and his mother Sayyidah Sumayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), Sayyiduna Suhaib, Sayyiduna Bilal, and Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with them). Among them, Allah protected the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) through his uncle Abu Talib, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) through his tribe, and the rest were seized by the polytheists. They would make them wear iron armor and leave them to burn in the sun. Among them, except for Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), there was no one who did not comply with their wishes, for Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) had annihilated himself in the matter of Allah, and he was humiliated by his people. The Quraysh would hand him over to the children, and they would drag him through the streets of Makkah, but still Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would say, "Ahad, Ahad" (One, One).
