It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took me with him somewhere. We kept walking until, when we reached a certain place, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drew a line on the ground and said to me, “Stay behind this line, do not go beyond it. If you go beyond it, you will be destroyed.” So I stayed there, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went ahead. He went as far as a stone thrown by a man could reach, or a little further. There, some people appeared who seemed to be a nation from India called “Jat.” They were not wearing any clothes, and I could not even see their private parts. Their bodies were tall and had very little flesh. They came and tried to mount the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept reciting something in front of them. They also came to me and started circling around me and trying to disturb me, which caused me to be overcome by intense fear, and I remained seated in my place. When dawn broke, those people began to leave. After a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also returned. At that time, he seemed very heavy and was feeling pain in his body, so he said to me, “I am feeling heavy.” Then he placed his head in my lap. Meanwhile, some other people arrived who were wearing white clothes and were also very tall. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had fallen asleep, so I was overcome by even greater fear than before. Then they began to say to each other, “This man has been granted goodness. His eyes sleep, but his heart remains awake. Come, let us give an example for him. You state the example, we will explain its interpretation, or we will state the example, you explain its interpretation.” So some of them said, “His example is like that of a chief who built a strong building, then invited people to a feast, and whoever did not attend the feast, he punished him severely.” Others explained its interpretation, saying, “The chief refers to Allah, Lord of the worlds; the building refers to Islam; the food refers to Paradise; and this is the inviter. Whoever follows him will enter Paradise, and whoever does not follow him will be subjected to punishment.” After a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also woke up and said, “O Ibn Umm ‘Abd! What did you see?” I replied, “I saw such and such.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Nothing of what they said was hidden or concealed from me. This was a group of angels.”
