It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the two sons of Malika once came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “Our mother used to greatly honor her husband, was very kind to her children, and they also mentioned her hospitality. However, in the time of ignorance, she had buried a girl alive. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Your mother is in Hell.’ Upon hearing this, both of them turned to leave, and signs of displeasure were clearly visible on their faces. Then, by the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), both were called back. When they returned, signs of happiness could be seen on their faces, because they hoped that perhaps a new command had been revealed regarding their mother. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: ‘My mother will also be with your mother.’ A hypocrite, upon hearing this, quietly said: ‘We are following him just like that, he cannot even benefit his own mother?’ An Ansari—whom I have not seen anyone ask more questions than him—said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Has your Lord made any promise regarding this woman or those days?’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘I have neither asked my Lord about this nor has He given me any hope, but I will be granted the Maqam-e-Mahmood (the Praised Station) on the Day of Resurrection.’ That Ansari asked: ‘What is Maqam-e-Mahmood?’ He replied: ‘When on the Day of Resurrection you will all be brought forth naked, barefoot, and uncircumcised, and the first to be clothed will be Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and Allah Almighty will say: “Clothe My Khalil (friend),” so two white sheets will be brought and Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will wear them, then he will sit and face the Throne of Allah. After that, clothing will be brought for me and I will also wear it, then I will stand at a place to my right where no one else will be able to stand, and the first and the last will envy me for it. Then, from the river of Paradise, a stream will be drawn to the Pond of Kawthar.’ Upon hearing this, the hypocrites said: ‘Water always flows on soil or on small and fine pebbles.’ That Ansari asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Will that water flow on any soil or on pebbles?’ He replied: ‘Its soil will be musk and its pebbles will be pearls like silver beads.’ A hypocrite quietly said: ‘I have never heard this before today. Whenever water flows on any soil or pebbles, surely something grows there.’ Upon hearing this, the Ansari asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Will anything grow there?’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Yes! Branches of gold.’ The hypocrite again said: ‘I have never heard this before today. Where there are branches, there are also leaves and fruits.’ The Ansari asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Will there be fruits as well?’ He replied: ‘Yes! Like the colors of jewels, and the water of the Pond of Kawthar will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever drinks a sip from it will never feel thirsty again, and whoever is deprived of it will never be quenched.’
