It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that even today that scene is preserved before my eyes when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was describing about a prophet whom his people had beaten, and he was wiping the blood from his face and kept saying, "O Lord! Forgive my people, for they do not know me." (This is a reference to the incident of Ta'if.)
