It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this blessed verse was revealed: «﴿الَّذِينَآمَنُواوَلَمْيَلْبِسُواإِيمَانَهُمْبِظُلْمٍ . . . . .﴾ [الأنعام : 82]» "Those who believe and do not mix their faith with injustice . . . . ." this was very hard on the people and they began to say: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who among us has not wronged himself? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It does not mean what you think it means. Have you not heard what the righteous servant (Luqman, peace be upon him) said: 'O my dear son! Do not associate anything with Allah, for indeed associating partners with Allah is a great injustice.' In this verse, what is meant is also shirk (associating partners with Allah)."
