Hadith 3577

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet, the Leader of both worlds (peace and blessings be upon him), said: "Whoever withholds the zakat of his wealth, his wealth will be turned into a bald snake, he will try to escape from it, but the snake will follow him and say, 'I am your treasure.'" Then Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse of the Noble Qur'an in support of this: «﴿سَيُطَوَّقُونَ مَا بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ﴾ [آل عمران : 180]» "Soon, that wealth over which they were miserly will be made into a collar around their necks on the Day of Resurrection."
