Hadith 3528

A Bedouin asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): What is the reason that the family of Muawiyah gives people water and honey to drink, the family of so-and-so gives milk, and you people serve nabidh? Is it due to miserliness or need? He replied: We are neither miserly nor in need. The fact is that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, with Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting behind him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water to drink, and we served him nabidh. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank it and gave the remainder to Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him), and said: "You have done well and acted excellently; do likewise."
