Hadith 3489

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that regarding a mukatab (contracted slave) who has been freed (and someone kills him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave this ruling: “For the portion of the contract that he has paid, blood money equal to that of a free man shall be given, and for the portion that remains unpaid, blood money equal to that of a slave shall be given.”
