Musnad Ahmad
ومن مسند بني هاشمFrom the Musnad of Banu Hashim
مُسْنَدُ عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمَاMusnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith 3486

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْجَزَرِيِّ ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ ، قَالَ : لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ " أَنَّ رَايَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، وَرَايَةَ الْأَنْصَارِ مَعَ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ ، وَكَانَ إِذَا اسْتَحَرَّ الْقَتْلُ ، كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِمَّا يَكُونَ تَحْتَ رَايَةِ الْأَنْصَارِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the flag of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for the Muhajirun used to be with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and for the Ansar it used to be with Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), and when the battle would intensify, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would be under the flag of the Ansar.
