Abu Dhubyan (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked us, "Which is the final recitation: that of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) or that of Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him)?" We replied, "That of Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him)." He said, "No, in fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to review the Qur'an every year with Jibreel (peace be upon him), and in the year the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he reviewed it twice, and the final recitation was that of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)."
