Hadith 3356

Arqam bin Sharhabil, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once, while traveling from Madinah Munawwarah to Shaam, I had the companionship of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. During the journey, I asked him, "Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appoint anyone as his successor (wasi)?" Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith until Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not leave any congregational prayer even during his illness of death. When his condition became very heavy, even then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came supported between two men in such a way that his blessed feet were dragging lines on the ground. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in this state, and he did not appoint anyone as his successor (wasi)."
