Hadith 3307

Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to visit Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) when he was ill. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was wearing a silk cloak of istabraq at that time, and in front of him was a brazier in which there were some images. Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu al-Abbas! What is this garment? He asked: What do you mean? He replied: This is istabraq (silk). He said: By Allah! I did not realize that, and I think that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing it due to pride and oppression, and all praise is due to Allah, we are not like that. Then Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What about these images in the brazier? He said: As you can see, we have burned them in the fire.
