Ata bin Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) led the Maghrib prayer and said salam after only two rak'ahs, then stood up to perform istilam of the Black Stone. The people behind him said "Subhan Allah," so he said, "What is the matter with you?" (Then he understood himself and) returned and completed the remaining prayer, and at the end performed two prostrations of forgetfulness. When this was mentioned in the presence of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said that he did not turn away from the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
