مُسْنَدُ عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمَاMusnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith 3187

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا خَرَجَتْ الْحَرُورِيَّةُ ، اعْتَزَلُوا ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُمْ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ صَالَحَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، فَقَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ : " اكْتُبْ يَا عَلِيُّ : هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " قَالُوا : لَوْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَا قَاتَلْنَاكَ ! فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " امْحُ يَا عَلِيُّ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي رَسُولُكَ ، امْحُ يَا عَلِيُّ وَاكْتُبْ : هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ " وَاللَّهِ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَلِيٍّ ، وَقَدْ مَحَا نَفْسَهُ ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مَحْوُهُ ذَلِكَ يُمْحَاهُ مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ ، أَخَرَجْتُ مِنْ هَذِهِ ؟ قَالُوا : نَعَمْ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Haruriyyah sect rebelled, they were all cut off. I said to them: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made a treaty with the polytheists at the place of Hudaybiyyah, so he said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Ali! Write: This is the agreement according to which Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), has made peace." The polytheists of Quraysh said: If we considered you to be the Messenger of Allah, we would never fight you. Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ali! Erase it. O Allah! You know that I am Your Messenger. Ali! Erase it and write: This is the agreement which Muhammad bin Abdullah has made." I said to the Khawarij: By Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was better than Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he erased his own name, but by erasing it from the document, he did not cease to be a Prophet. Have I come out of this (i.e., am I free from blame)? The people said: Yes!
