Hadith 312

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ : أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ قَائِمٌ يَخْطُبُ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : أَيَّةُ سَاعَةٍ هَذِهِ ؟ فَقَالَ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، انْقَلَبْتُ مِنَ السُّوقِ فَسَمِعْتُ النِّدَاءَ ، فَمَا زِدْتُ عَلَى أَنْ تَوَضَّأْتُ ، فَأَقْبَلْتُ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : الْوُضُوءُ أَيْضًا ! وَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِالْغُسْلِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the Friday sermon. During the sermon, a man came. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him, "What is this time to come?" He replied, "O Commander of the Faithful! I was returning from the market. As soon as I heard the call to prayer, I performed ablution and came." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "And ablution only from above? While you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered to perform ghusl for Friday."
