Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I was present on the occasion of Eid with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all). All of these noble persons used to lead the prayer before the sermon, without any call to prayer (adhan) or iqamah. One day, on the day of Eid, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delivered the sermon, and afterwards he thought that the women might not have heard his voice. So, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to the women along with Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), admonished and advised them, recited the verse of allegiance, and after finishing, asked them: "Do you acknowledge this?" Among them, one woman—whose name the narrator does not remember and who was the only one to reply—said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)!" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered them to give charity, upon which the women began to take off their earrings and rings, etc., and give them in charity. Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) spread out a cloth and kept saying: "Give charity, may my parents be sacrificed for you."
