Hadith 304

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ : حَدِّثْنِي عَنْ طَلَاقِكَ امْرَأَتَكَ ، قَالَ : طَلَّقْتُهَا وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ ، قَالَ : فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، فَذَكَرَهُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مُرْهُ فَلْيُرَاجِعْهَا ، فَإِذَا طَهُرَتْ ، فَلْيُطَلِّقْهَا فِي طُهْرِهَا " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لَهُ : هَلْ اعْتَدَدْتَ بِالَّتِي طَلَّقْتَهَا وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ ؟ قَالَ : فَمَا لِي لَا أَعْتَدُّ بِهَا ، وَإِنْ كُنْتُ قَدْ عَجَزْتُ وَاسْتَحْمَقْتُ .
Anas bin Sirin says that once I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) to narrate the incident of divorcing his wife. He said: I divorced my wife while she was in her menstrual period, and I informed Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about it. He mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "Tell him to take his wife back, and when she becomes pure, then in the period of purity he may divorce her." I asked: Did you count the divorce that was given during her menstrual period? He said: Why would I not count it? He said: If I had not done so, people would have considered me foolish.
