Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached near a place called Marr az-Zahran for Umrah, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) came to know that the Quraysh were saying about them: "What will these people be able to do due to weakness?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "We will slaughter our animals, eat their meat, and drink the broth. When we enter Makkah in front of the polytheists, we will have gained strength." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them from doing so and said: "Bring to me whatever provisions you have." So the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) brought their provisions and spread out the dining cloth. Everyone ate together (yet some was still left), and when they left from there, each of them filled their leather containers with it and took it away. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved forward until he entered Masjid al-Haram. The polytheists were sitting towards Hatim. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed idtiba' with his cloak (i.e., he passed the cloak under his right shoulder and placed it over his left shoulder, leaving his right shoulder bare) and said: "Let these people not perceive any weakness in you." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) touched the Black Stone and began the tawaf, until when he reached the Yemeni Corner, he walked at his normal pace up to the corner of the Black Stone. The polytheists, seeing this, said: "They are not even content with just walking; they are bounding like gazelles." In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did so for three circuits, and thus this became a Sunnah. Abu Tufail says that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did this in the Farewell Hajj.
