It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I asked the Prophet, "O Messenger of Allah! Is there recitation in every prayer?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "Yes!" Then an Ansari said, "Then it has become obligatory." After that, Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) turned towards me, because I was the closest to him, and said, "Nephew! I think that when the Imam leads the people in prayer, he suffices on their behalf."
