Ikrimah says that once there was a difference of opinion between Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding a woman who performed the Tawaf al-Ziyarah on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah and immediately after that her menstruation began. Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) was of the opinion that she could not return until she performed the Tawaf al-Wada', while Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was of the opinion that if she had performed the Tawaf on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah and had become lawful for her husband, then if she wished, she could return and did not need to wait. The Ansar said: O Ibn Abbas! If you differ with Zaid in any matter, we will not follow you in it. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Ask Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) about this. So they asked Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), and she informed them that this had happened with Safiyyah bint Huyayy (may Allah be pleased with her), upon which Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Alas! Will you hold us back? This was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to depart. Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) herself reported that the same situation happened to her, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also ordered her to depart.
