It is narrated from Hazrat Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) that my husband Abu Amr bin Hafs bin Mughirah sent me a message of divorce one day. I went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned the whole incident. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spend your waiting period in the house of your paternal cousin Ibn Umm Maktum." Marwan used to deny this hadith and did not allow a divorced woman to leave her house, and according to Urwah, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) also used to deny this.
